The owner of the Sandrine Chocolates store, Niaz Marda, reinforced the importance of “keeping customers”, a factor that has prevented her from “increasing the prices” of chocolates too much.

“If we compare it to last year and the year before, the price of cocoa is very, very different. On top of that, as my customers are local they know the prices by heart, so I can’t increase them too much, I have to increase very little, because I want them to be happy and to be loyal customers”, said Marda, quoted by international agencies.

To the climate change is harming cocoa production, according to local farmers, has led prices to reach record values. The increase in the cost of living in the United Kingdom has also contributed to a decrease in sales.

In recent months, winds coming from the Sahara have been particularly strong, damaging the pods on cocoa trees. About three-quarters of the world’s cocoa beans, the main ingredient in chocolate, are produced in West Africa.
