This confectionery is made up of layers of dough, sugar and cinnamon and is one of Mirandese’s ex-libris. There is a lot of demand, especially at this time of Easter.

“At this time we are mainly looking for sweet balls. We have a lot of demand and a lot of orders”, said exhibitor Sofia Araújo.

Trader Paula Domingues also shares the same opinion. She has more than 300 ball pieces to sell at the fair and believes they will sell out. “On the last day it is always sold out. We are producing until almost eight o’clock at night and it comes in drops, because we can’t produce any more,” she said.

This year, the event has 90 exhibitors, more than in the previous year and not only from Planalto Mirandês, but also from other municipalities in Trás-os-Montes. The sweet ball is king, but there is also no shortage of other regional products, such as sausages, cheese, liqueurs, honey and handicrafts. “I make crafts from noble, indigenous woods. Table boards, the ottoman, mirrors, hangers, dining tables”, said craftsman Sérgio Pires.

The fair takes place in Largo dos Frades Trinos, contrary to usual.

Although bad weather is expected in the coming days, the mayor of Miranda do Douro, Helena Barril, believes that there will be no shortage of visitors. “The people who wanted to visit us will visit us anyway. This is a privileged period, because there are many people on vacation, who take vacations during this period to come to Miranda. The Spanish are experiencing Holy Week and usually come to Miranda. Therefore, I don’t know if it will be this weather that will keep them away, because the tent has the conditions for us to be fine”, she stressed.

The Bola Doce Fair started this Monday and runs until Saturday.
