“UA small miracle in the middle of Holy Week”. This is how the newspaper La Vanguardia describes the accident that two friends from Pedrola, in Zaragoza, had in the early hours of Tuesday, next to the Tauste wind farm.
According to the Spanish newspaper, which cites the Heraldo de Aragón, the vehicle in which the victims were traveling crashed, falling approximately 200 meters down a slope full of trees and rocks.
In addition to leaving the vehicle “unharmed”, the friends still managed to climb the mountain on foot until they found an area with network coverage to ask for help.
The call for help was received, according to authorities, at around 2 am. Agents from the Guardia Civil and the Local Police of Tauste participated in the rescue operation.
After being rescued, the pair were transported to the Tauste health center, where doctors confirmed that none had suffered serious injuries, despite the magnitude of the accident, so they were discharged and returned home a few hours after the accident.
In the morning, authorities returned to the scene of the accident and found that there were no signs of braking. Everything indicates that the driver did not notice a curve, after a straight line, sending the car down the slope.
The vehicle was found 200 meters further down. Only a log stopped it from falling further.
Researchers are now trying to understand what the friends were doing in that remote place. One of the occupants of the vehicle said that he had argued with the woman and that he decided to take a walk to “take a breather”. However, authorities suspect that these may be related to a theft of material from the wind farm, which occurred the previous day, as scissors and other suspicious tools were found on the slope where the car fell.
