Ouro Preto gains Official Mini Handball Center with installation at OPTC headquarters

In a historic moment for Ouro Preto, the creation of the first official “Mini Handebol” hub in the city was announced. This unprecedented initiative is the result of a collaboration between the Minas Gerais Handball Federation (FMH) and Ouro Preto City Hall. The announcement was formalized in a meeting held this Tuesday, March 26th, between the president of FMH, Luiz Fernando Andrade, the municipal secretary of Sports and Leisure, Marco Antônio de Freitas (Marquinho do Esporte) and professor Bruno Barros, renowned coach handball in Ouro Preto.

Marquinhos recalled that “handball has always been a symbol of Ouro Preto’s sporting heritage, thanks to the legacy left by the late professor Francisco da Silva Barros, known as Seu Chico. Now, this legacy gains new life with the municipal initiative combined with the technical experience of Bruno Barros, grandson of Seu Chico”. The decisive support from Ouro Preto City Hall reinforces the commitment to valuing different types of sports in the education of young citizens and the well-being of the community.

Mini handball stands out for its accessibility and simplicity of rules. It is an activity to introduce the principles of handball; Its dynamics make it capable of meeting a variety of objectives, including movements, actions and its application in games with or without the ball.

The center’s installation will be based at Ouro Preto Tênis Clube (OPTC). Classes will be free, the project will be offered to children and young people aged 5 to 13, with a scheduled start date in the first week of April, on 04/02/2024. In recognition of the relevance of the Secretariat’s initiative in promoting the appreciation of the base and the diversification of sports offered in Ouro Preto, the Minas Gerais Handball Federation awarded Secretary Marquinhos the Federation’s Medal of Honor for Merit.
