Using a hairdryer caused a serious accident

The dog trainer from South Carolina, USA, suffered severe damage to the nerves in her hand and wrist, to the point that she needed to have both urgently amputated and the story shocked the medical team responsible for the care.

“I look at my hand and don’t even recognize it as part of me,” says Mary Wilson.

The report of the accident is frightening. Professionals were in disbelief to hear that Mary was drying her hair when she suffered an electric shock so strong it caused her to pass out.

While the trainer was passed out, the heat from the equipment melted her hand for about 20 minutes. The high temperature caused serious and irreversible burns and so doctors decided to amputate the limb.

Mary was woken up by her companion who found her on the floor and took her to the hospital. The young woman’s biggest fear is being away from what she loves to do, working with animals.

“It really puts into perspective all the other issues I was dealing with in my life 6 months ago are so insignificant compared to the things I’m having to go through now, or the challenges I’m going to face.”

“I’m still going to live my life to the fullest. It’s just a hand. What is this, 10% of my body?”

Fortunately, a local restaurant announced a donation of a significant amount of money to help the trainer continue her treatment and recovery.
