A study carried out by researchers at St. George’s University in London revealed that sudden death during sex is not just a problem for elderly people.
Published in JAMA Cardiology, the research analyzed cases that occurred between 1994 and 2020 in a hospital in the United Kingdom.

Researchers found that individuals under the age of 50 are also at risk of sudden death, with 35% of cases occurring in women.
Analyzing 6,847 cases of sudden cardiac death referred to St. George’s University’s cardiac pathology center, the study revealed that 0.2% of these deaths were linked to sexual activity.
Although it is more common to associate this type of fatality with older people, the analysis showed that factors such as heart defects and drug use can trigger tragic events even in healthy young people.
More than half of the cases studied were attributed to Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS), a sudden cardiac arrest with no apparent cause, often related to cardiac changes of genetic origin.

Quitting smoking is also essential, as is taking care of your emotional health and practicing physical activity regularly.
