Son of Porsche accident victim in SP laments: ‘My father didn’t deserve this cruelty’

Two feelings take over the family of Ornaldo da Silva Viana, a 52-year-old app driver who died this weekend, in São Paulo, after his car was hit by a Porsche, valued at more than R$1 million: unbelief faced with the tragedy, they still do not believe in the episode, and the expectation by the action of justice.

The entrepreneur Fernando Sastre de Andrade Filho, 24 years old, driver of the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS that crashed into a Renault Sandero and caused Viana’s death, handed himself in at the 30th Police District of Tatuapé, east of the capital, on the afternoon of this Monday, 1st. He presented himself almost 40 hours after the accident, recorded at around 2:20 am on Sunday.

The businessman was charged with intentional homicide, bodily harm and escape. The Civil Police also requested the temporary arrest. Lawyer Carine Acardo Garcia, who defends the Porsche driver, stated that he is in a “state of shock”.

Also this afternoon, practically at the same time, Viana was being buried in Guarulhos, in Greater São Paulo. “My father didn’t deserve this cruelty,” says the victim’s son, Lucas Morais, 28, also a ride-hailing driver.

According to a report made by witnesses to the Civil Police, the businessman in the luxury car was traveling at high speed along the avenue, which has a speed limit of 50 km/h. When overtaking, he would have lost control of the Porsche and crashed into the back of Viana’s car.

Viana was rescued with a cardiorespiratory arrest and taken to Tatuapé Hospital. He died because of “multiple traumas”.

From the images, it is possible to see the violence of the collision, which took both cars to the avenue. One of them hits the light pole, which causes an immediate loss of electricity in the block. The circumstances of the accident are being investigated by the Civil Police.

Viana was born in Codó, Maranhão, and currently lived in Guarulhos. Father of three children, the driver was an evangelical member of the UCKG (Universal Church of the Kingdom of God). He was the playful, outgoing, easy-to-laugh type, according to his friends.

The pain of loss gives way to indignation. “Why didn’t they do the breathalyzer? Why did they release him (the Porsche driver)? I don’t understand much about the law, but they can’t release anyone after an accident like that,” says Lucas.

The Civil Police are investigating the reasons why the military police officers who responded to the incident released the businessman, who only presented himself this Monday.

In the incident report, police officers who responded to the case state that Andrade Filho’s mother attended the scene and said she would take her son to Hospital São Luiz, located in Ibirapuera, south zone, to treat a wound in the mouth. When the agents went to the hospital to do a breathalyzer test and get their version of the accident, they didn’t find either of them.
