On December 23, 2023, Luisa was preparing for the Paris Olympics when she was run over by an unlicensed motorcyclist. The case happened on Estrada Municipal Abel Terrugi (SCA-329), in the district of Santa Eudóxia, while she was cycling with other cyclists.

The athlete was admitted to the hospital with severe hemorrhagic shock and Luisa’s heart stopped for eight minutes. She suffered no brain damage, but had fractures on most of the right side of her body, with some open fractures on her hand and leg. Faced with a situation considered almost irreversible. A machine known as ECMO, which works like an artificial lung, helped the triathlete fight for her life.

Luisa received care at Santa Casa de São Carlos and the Hospital das Clínicas of the University of São Paulo (USP), and was later transferred to Hospital São Luiz, in Itaim, in the South Zone of the capital of São Paulo.

The athlete represented Brazil in the last edition of the Pan American Games, in Santiago, Chile.
