Speaking to g1, by telephone, the Secretary of Social Services of Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Maria Jacinta da Silva, stated that the minibus lacked brakes during the journey. The city hall declared three days of official mourning.

A TV Globothe executive secretary of Public Order and Urban Control of Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Carlos Sá, said that the minibus had undergone maintenance and had its license renewed after an inspection carried out by the city hall, carried out five months ago (see video above).

The first inspection of the vehicle was carried out on Monday morning (1st), by the Criminalistics Institute (IC). According to expert Alcides Buarque, the assessment was not completed because it was not possible to start the minibus, which remains at the IC’s disposal.
“The vehicle doesn’t work. I will need a specialized mechanic to start this vehicle so I can examine it. According to the city hall of Jaboatão dos Guararapes, five is the total number of deaths, until the last update of this report. The victims were identified as:
- Edson Maurício Barbosa, 52 years old, who died at the Ibura Emergency Care Unit (UPA), in the South Zone of Recife;
- Amauri João de Lima, 68 years old, who died at the Imbiribeira UPA, in the South Zone of Recife;
- Edite Maria da Silva, 51 years old, the place of death was not disclosed;
- Jéssica Kelly Mendonça dos Santos, aged 22, at Hospital da Restauração, in the Derby neighborhood, in the central area of Recife;
- Tereza Cristina Batista Silveira, 65 years old, who died at the Lagoa Encantada UPA in the Cohab neighborhood, in the South Zone of Recife.
The names of the 29 injured people were not released. The city hall reported the following:
- Thirteen people were discharged;
- Nine injured, aged between 5 and 67are at Hospital da Restauração, in Derby, central area of Recife;
- Seven people of undisclosed ages are at Dom Hélder Hospital, in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, in the Metropolitan Region.
