Actress Jennifer Garner announced, this Monday (1), the death of her father, William John Garner, at the age of 85. In a statement on Instagram, the star of ‘De Repente 30’ (2004) revealed that his death occurred peacefully over the weekend.
“My father died peacefully on Saturday afternoon,” Jennifer wrote. “We were with him, singing ‘Amazing Grace’ when he left us (whether we helped him pass or scared him is a valid question).”
“While there is no tragedy in the death of an 85-year-old man who lived a healthy and wonderful life, I know that grief is inevitable and that it will hit us at the most unexpected times,” the actress continued.
“Today is a day of gratitude. We are grateful for our father’s kind and strong behavior,” she added, also mentioning the feelings of her sisters, Susannah Kay Garner Carpenter and Melissa Garner Wylie.
Jennifer also thanked the hospitals that took care of William. “Your care extended our father’s life and gave him time to go to his favorite places — surrounded by his daughters, his granddaughter, and with his wife of 59 years, our mother,” she said.
In the comments section of the post — which includes several images of William with his family — Garner received a series of comforting messages.
“Sending you and your entire family lots of love, light and hugs,” actress Lily Collins wrote. “Sending light and love to you.
