In March, domestic wheat prices remained relatively stable, although monthly averages are still considerably below those recorded in the same period of the previous year. According to data from the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea), in São Paulo, for example, the average value of wheat during the last month was R$ 1,222.99 per ton, reflecting a sharp drop of 30.6% in compared to March 2023.

In Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, devaluations were also significant, reaching 24%, 19.4% and 12.6%, respectively. The average prices in these states were R$1,241.66 per ton, R$1,173.65 per ton and R$1,394.80 per ton, respectively.

Despite the downward trends in prices, Cepea researchers observe that business in the domestic market continues to occur on an punctual basis. Producers are focused on the summer harvest, while buyers are looking for quality wheat. However, domestic availability of quality wheat remains low.
