The Civil Police, in joint action by the Campina Grande Homicide and Personal Protection Police Station – DHPP and the 21st Bom Sucesso Police Station – Rio de Janeiro, arrested on Monday afternoon, April 1st, in the Morro Agudo community, municipality of Nova Iguaçu/RJ, a 48-year-old man, suspected of murder.

According to the investigations carried out by this DHPP/CG, the suspect had murdered the victim João Pereira da Silva with a revolver shot, on July 18, 1999, on Rua São Benedito, in the Jeremias neighborhood, in Campina Grande. It was found in the records that the crime was motivated by revenge, as there was a previous disagreement between the victim and the suspect, considering that the victim filed a police report months earlier, accusing the suspect of having broken into his house and destroyed several objects.

The suspect had been on the run since then, with a preventive arrest warrant issued against him by the court of the 2nd Court of the Jury Court of Campina Grande.

After exchanging information between this DHPP/CG and the Rio Civil Police, it was possible to locate the suspect in the city of Nova Iguaçu, where he had lived for years, and his arrest was carried out inside his residence.

The suspect will be sent to a custody hearing in the state of Rio de Janeiro and should be returned to Paraíba in the coming weeks.
