On a trip to Taiwan, the mayor of Holambra, Fernando Capato, attended the signing of a memorandum of understanding to promote collaboration and exchange of agricultural techniques and cultivation of the Phalaenopsis orchid between Brazil and Taiwan. The agreement was signed in March between the Taiwan Flower Export Association (TFEA) and the Floriculturists’ Cooperative, Cooperflora Holambra. It was mediated by the mayor of the City of Flowers, together with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in São Paulo.

“Taiwan orchid producers and laboratories are recognized for their research and development of new colors and styles of this species, which can move and supply the Brazilian market and also increase the profitability of Cooperflora members”, explained Capato. “The exchange of knowledge will result in benefits and strengthen ties between Brazil and Taiwan”, highlighted the mayor.

According to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in São Paulo, the agreement should increase the competitiveness of Brazilians in the global market and promote greater appreciation for this flower. Also according to the Office, a long-term logistics technique is being implemented, ensuring that, even with a transit time of 35 days from Taiwan to Brazil, the quality of the flowers is preserved during transport.
