The United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office announced on Tuesday that it had summoned Israel’s ambassador to the country to provide clarification on the deaths of three British citizens in Gaza.
Three nationals of the country were killed in an Israeli army attack on a convoy belonging to World Central Kitchen, an NGO that cooked and distributed food to Palestinians in the north of the Gaza Strip.
In addition to the three Britons, one Australian, one Canadian and one Palestinian died. After more than 30,000 deaths caused by Israeli forces in the region, this was the first time that the Netanyahu government lamented the deaths of non-Israeli civilians in the conflict.
Netanyahu realized that executing the officials would cause problems globally. And, in fact, British Development Minister Andrew Mitchell took a worrying attitude, after all, the United Kingdom is one of the main actors in favor of Israel.
“Today, I summoned the Israeli Ambassador to London. I presented the government’s unequivocal condemnation of the horrific murder of 7 World Central Kitchen aid workers, including 3 British citizens. I called for a swift and transparent investigation, shared with the international community, and full accountability .
I reiterated the need for Israel to immediately and urgently implement an effective conflict resolution mechanism to increase humanitarian access. We need to see an immediate humanitarian pause, to get aid out and remove the hostages, and then progress towards a sustainable ceasefire,” he added.
