“Today we were not stronger. We knew how to hold on to other things, because we lacked a lot of ball. In the first game we were much superior, but tonight Benfica were more aggressive and we didn’t have the ball, because we couldn’t play between the lines either”, summarized Ruben Amorim.
“We started well in the second half, we scored, we had some good outings, but we didn’t have the usual level of play. I hope to improve for Saturday [para o dérbi no campeonato]. But we achieved the most important thing, which was qualifying. At the end of the game we should have done much more to take advantage of the space that was given”, added the coach, rejecting the idea that the Lions are now favorites for next Saturday’s derby, counting for the championship.
“We are no longer favorites for the championship, because the sensations of this game are still very present here. We have to review this game very well to prepare for the championship duel, which will have a very different story”, he highlighted.
Asked if he believes in winning the League and the Portuguese Cup, Ruben Amorim did not hesitate: “I believe, the fans believe and we can win both competitions, but there are many games left in the championship”, he said.
