O dollar ended this Tuesday’s session (2) practically stable. The currency closed the day at R$5,058that is, a drop of just 0.02% after the first intervention by the Central Bank (BC) since 2022.

The value represents an increase of 0.86% in the week and in the month, in addition to an accumulation of 4.24% in the year.

The operation means that the BC sells dollars on the futures market, without involving Brazilian currency reserves.

This Tuesday, the institution sold US$1 billion in foreign exchange swaps, in the first intervention by the monetary authority in the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

The last time the agency had acted on the exchange rate was on December 27, 2022, when it sold dollars with a commitment to repurchase the currency months later to meet the demand for the North American currency typical at the end of the quarter.

In contrast to the dollar, the Ibovespa, the main stock index on the stock exchange, ended on a high. The index rose 0.44% and reached 127,548.52 points. In March, B3’s main marker fell 0.71%.

As a result, the indicator shows a drop of 0.44% in the week and month, and a decline of 4.95% in the year.
