The most affected province was Fujian, with reports mainly in the cities of Xiamen and Fuzhou. The tremor was also felt in cities on the Chinese coast, including Shanghai. There was also an impact on other countries such as Japan and the Philippines, which even issued tsunami warnings.

The advisory was aimed at coastal areas, but was suspended about three hours after the earthquake. There was a risk of waves up to three meters high.

Taiwanese state media even said that the tremors were the strongest to hit the island in the last 25 years.
