Presented to the public at the end of 2023, the Xiaomi SU7first electric car from the Chinese company of smartphones and gadgets, is finally available on the market. Officially launched in the last week of March, the vehicle broke a record number of orders: 88,898 orders were placed in the first 24 hours.

Xiaomi’s intention is to enter the automotive market in a competitive way, which is why the company started selling the SU7 with a price lower than that of the Model 3 Tesla. In China, the most basic model of Xiaomi’s electric sedan costs 215,900 yuan (approximately R$146,000). The price of the Tesla Model 3 in the country starts at 245,900 yuan (around R$170,000).

The SU7 has three versions, all with performance praised by experts. The cheapest is the Standard, which has a rear electric motor with 295 hp and 40.8 kgfm, and a 73.6 kWh battery from BYD. The model promises to reach up to 700 km. This entry-level version costs 215,900 yuan (approximately R$146,000 at the current exchange rate)

The Pro version has the same engine as the previous version, but a larger battery – 94.3 kWh CATL Shenxing. The promised range is 830 km and the price is 245,900 yuan (R$170,000).

Finally, the top of the line Max has an extra engine (front) and a larger battery than the other versions, 101 kWh. According to Xiaomi, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 2.8 seconds, with a projected range of 800 km. The cost of the most expensive model is 299,900 yuan (R$208,000).

The SU7 appealed to customers due to its operating system, shared with Xiaomi’s popular phones and other electronic devices. Additionally, drivers will have seamless access to the company’s existing portfolio of mobile apps.

The vehicle is part of the “Human x Car x Home” strategy recently launched by Xiaomi, which seeks to build an ecosystem of devices connected to its new HyperOS operating system.

The company has also prepared a series of special accessories for the car, including smartphone holders and even a car refrigerator – some accessories are available free of charge when purchasing the vehicle before the end of April, others can only be purchased for a separate price.

According to Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, the car has fast charging capabilities in low temperatures and is equipped with technology that allows it to recognize obstacles in challenging conditions, such as snow.

How to buy?

For now, Xiaomi’s new electric vehicle is only available in China.

To CNBC, Xiaomi states that the SU7 will be sold to Chinese consumers first and that “it may take at least two or three years for an overseas launch”.
