“OThe United States stands ready to provide all necessary assistance”Adrienne Watson, spokesperson for the National Security Council, said in a statement, adding that the US Government is monitoring the consequences of the earthquake in Taiwan and its potential impact on Japan.
The earthquake with a magnitude greater than seven on the Richter scale caused nine deaths, more than 900 injuries and more than a hundred missing, according to a provisional report.
It also damaged dozens of buildings and is considered the strongest to hit the island in the last 25 years.
