“WI invited the ambassador (…). I want to talk to him about the new situation in Polish-Israeli relations and about the moral, political and financial responsibility for the incident that recently occurred in Gaza.”declared deputy minister Andrzej Szajna, quoted by the Polish agency PAP.

Seven workers from the humanitarian organization World Central Kitchen (WCK) were killed on Monday night in the Gaza Strip, in an attack that the Israeli army has already classified as “a serious error”.

Among the victims were citizens of British, Polish and Australian nationality, as well as a Palestinian and an American-Canadian.

An Israeli drone fired three shots on Monday night at a WCK caravan in the city of Deir al-Balah, in the center of the Palestinian enclave, despite the cars being marked with the organization’s logo, according to an exclusive report published on Tuesday in the Israeli daily Haaretz.

The Israeli army’s preliminary report, published today, concludes that the attack on the WCK humanitarian convoy was not “intended to harm humanitarian workers” and was due to a “misidentification”.

The chief of staff of the Israeli army, Herzi Halevi, insisted that an “independent entity will investigate the incident thoroughly”, a more complete investigation expected to be completed in the coming days, and promised that the army “will learn from its conclusions, implement immediate measures and will share these findings with the WCK and other relevant international organizations.”

Following the attack, the organization suspended activities in the Palestinian enclave, which is facing famine due to the war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, which has been ongoing for almost six months.

The institution, founded in 2010 by Spanish chef (with US citizenship) José Andrés, is one of two non-governmental organizations (NGOs) actively involved in delivering aid to Gaza by sea from Cyprus.

The attack against humanitarian workers was condemned, among other organizations and countries, by the European Union and the United States of America, which demanded that the incident be investigated.
