On Tuesday (2), the stepfather and mother of a boy who disappeared in 2008, at the age of 4, were arrested in a Civil Police operation in Rio Grande, on the south coast of Rio Grande do Sul.
The couple, currently separated, are suspected of having murdered the child.
Arrests and investigation:
The man, aged 49, was arrested in Bagé, in Campanha, and the woman, aged 44, in Arroio dos Ratos, in the Carboniferous Region. Both were sent to the Rio Grande State Penitentiary.
The investigation, coordinated by delegate Alexandra Sosa, from the Rio Grande State Department for the Protection of Vulnerable Groups, revealed that the child had no records in public bodies, other than a birth certificate.
Inconsistencies and searches:
The lack of records, such as CPF, ID and history in public health networks, raised the suspicion that the disappearance could be a crime. The investigation also found that the suspects fled to Charqueadas after the crime.
Operation Indefensus and searches for the body:
The operation, called Indefensus, seeks to clarify the motivations for the crime and locate the child’s body. The Civil Police have already begun efforts to find the boy’s remains.
Tributes and appeal for justice:
The victim’s older brother, son of the arrested woman, continues to publish tributes to his brother on social media and requests for help to find him.
The Civil Police investigation seeks to bring justice to the case and provide closure for the family.
