Part on the island of Guishan – known as Turtle Island due to its shape – collapsed following the earthquake with a magnitude greater than seven on the Richter scale, which hit Taiwan this Wednesday.
The incident led to a change in the appearance of the island, causing the ‘turtle’ to lose part of its ‘head’. Rocks and debris collapsed and fell into the sea, generating a cloud of dust.
There is, however, no record of injured tourists or fishermen.
The earthquake left nine dead, more than 900 injured and more than a hundred missing, according to a provisional report. It also damaged dozens of buildings and is considered the strongest to hit the island in the last 25 years.
The moment of the collapse was captured on video and shared on social media.
