On March 27th, the Brazilian Robusta coffee market reached a historic milestone, with the CEPEA/ESALQ Indicator reaching a record value of R$955.19 per 60 kg bag. This mark represents the highest peak ever recorded in Cepea’s historical series for the variety, which began in November 2001, when adjusted for inflation.

The value of this variety of coffee increased by 13.3% during the month of March, equivalent to 111.67 Reais per bag. The monthly average of the Indicator also reflects this substantial growth, reaching R$892.73 per bag, an increase of 6% compared to February and an impressive 38.1% above the values recorded in March of the previous year.

Cepea researchers attribute this boost, in large part, to the growing international demand for the Brazilian variety. Foreign buyers have turned their attention to Brazil, amid concerns about the harvest in Vietnam, the world’s largest producer of Robusta coffee. In December of the previous year, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) indicated that the Asian country’s production could decrease by up to 12% compared to data released in June of the same year, due to challenges faced in the harvest.
