After Golden’s death, Gol announces suspension of air transport of animals for 30 days | Brazil

The airline Gol announced the suspension of air transport of animals in the hold, for 30 days, starting this Wednesday. The announcement comes after a dog died on Monday, after being sent by the company to the wrong destination.

According to the airline’s statement, customers can still transport their pets in the plane’s cabin. During this period, customers who have already contracted the hold transport service through GOLLOG Animals and the Dog&Cat + Espaço product can request a refund of the total amount or postpone the trip.

The Dog&Cat Cabin service, for Customers who take their pets in the aircraft cabin, will not undergo any changes.

The São Paulo Civil Police opened an investigation to investigate the death of the five-year-old Golden Retriever Joca dog.

The animal should have been taken from São Paulo International Airport, in Guarulhos, to Sinop Airport, in Mato Grosso, on the same flight as the owner. But the dog was shipped to Fortaleza, more than 2 thousand kilometers away from Sinop.

The tutor, João Fantazzini, was informed of the error by the company only when he arrived in Mato Grosso. He then decided to return to Guarulhos to find Joca.

But he told TV Globo that he found the dog with no vital signs.

The tutor’s family filed a police report at the Guarulhos Environmental Police Station. The case was registered as animal abuse.

According to the delegate in the case, the police will interview airport employees and check the place where the animal was stored before being sent back to Guarulhos. Investigators are also awaiting reports on the death.

Lawyer Marcello Primo Muccio told CBN that the family is very shaken and has not yet decided what actions they will take against the company. According to him, however, Gol committed, at the very least, mistreatment against Joca.

In a statement, the company regretted what happened and said it was surprised by the dog’s death.

Gol stated that the owner was notified of what happened as soon as he arrived in Sinop and that his choice was to return to Guarulhos to meet the dog again.

The company also said that it was responsible for taking care of the animal in Fortaleza until boarding the flight back to Guarulhos. During this period, the company sent records of Joca being accommodated back on the aircraft to the guardian.

The company also stated that it certified Joca’s death only after landing in Guarulhos.
