The National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) registered 5% drop in the price of airline tickets sold in February compared to the same period in 2023. Data released by the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) highlights that this was the fifth consecutive month of decline.

The average value of the ticket sold was BRL 566.37around 5% lower than that seen in February last year and the lowest fare since June 2023. According to the survey, 57.5% of tickets were sold in February for up to R$500, an increase of two percentage points in compared to February last year.

For MPor, the data is positive and comes amid ongoing dialogue between the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, and airlines in the search for more affordable tickets.

The ministry recalls that the government has been studying solutions to offer the necessary credit for companies to strengthen themselves, purchasing more aircraft, which should increase the number of flights offered.

MPor says it is also working to reduce the cost of aviation kerosene (QAV) and judicialization, “points that help to reduce air fares in the country”.

Different numbers

It is worth highlighting that Anac’s methodology is not the same as that adopted by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and, therefore, the numbers are routinely different.

Continues after advertising

While IBGE checks the price offered for tickets on company websites, Anac only considers tickets actually sold.
