Compared to Game of Thrones itself – although its director doesn’t like it at all – for its political intrigues, unexpected twists, epic action and visual spectacularity, there is no doubt that Shogun: The Glorious Saga of Japan, a series that premiered on Disney+ and Star+ in February, and will be among the best productions of the year when 2024 ends.

With a 99% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s clear that critics loved the historical series. Fiction set in 17th century feudal Japan, adapted from the novel of the same name by James Clavell, already turned into a miniseries in the 80s, presents a very tense scenario in which the ambition for power plays a fundamental role: while Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) fights to To sustain himself while his many political enemies conspire against him, a mysterious European ship appears abandoned in a fishing village.
