Catwoman suffers the most brutal death of her DC career

-

Catwoman has suffered several deaths recently, thanks to her new powers, and her most recent one is the most brutal in her entire comic book history.

Catwoman gained some powers that live up to the cat myth: after the events of Gotham War, Selina Kyle emerged from a meteor sent by Vandal Savage seemingly unharmed, with “nine lives”, one of which had just been expended. And now, in one of her “deaths”, she ends up suffering the most brutal of her career.

Warning for spoilers for Catwoman #64!

Okay, about the “nine lives”. Since Selina gained the mysterious powers, nothing has been revealed about them, only that she has taken the opportunity to participate in the most dangerous missions that she was normally reluctant to accept.

Selina’s first two deaths since her original resurrection in Gotham War happened in Catwoman #59, upon receiving a large fatal electric shock while breaking into a residence, and then being stabbed in the chest; the third occurred in Catwoman #60in which she even managed to avoid a syringe with fatal poison, but not the collision of a truck.

In Catwoman #61, she lost yet another life after falling ill from radiation on an adventure in Markovia. Already in Catwoman #63Selina saves a documentary filmmaker and ends up drowning, and, even though she revives, she dies again in an explosion that separates her spine, making her six out of nine deaths.

Well, the seventh of the nine lives ends brutally, in one of the worst deaths in comics, as painful as Jason Todd being demolished by the Joker’s chandelier.

What is the brutal death?

In Catwoman #64, recently released, by Tini Howard and Carmine Di Giandomenico, shows Catwoman’s most devastating death yet. To combat her latest enemies, the Viceroy and the White Glove, Selina must board the Ultraviolet X-40, an experimental spacecraft owned by the government. The objective is to travel through outer space to find and destroy a satellite without being seen.

Unfortunately, Catwoman didn’t count on the Wrecking Team after her on orders from the general of the spaceship she stole. The fight seriously damages the vehicle and forces it to make a forced landing on Earth. After violently launching herself through the atmosphere at the speed of light, her body burns several times and appears scorched until she falls lifeless at the end of the issue — most likely, Selina will take longer to recover from this death, compared to the others.

Although she is an experienced combatant, Catwoman appears to be a novice with her mysterious “luck” of nine lives, which is running out. We’ll see if it at least spares readers from another brutal death like the one in the most recent edition.
