Two Portuguese women die in a bus accident in Namibia. There are more Portuguese people injured – Nacional

Two Portuguese women died and several other Portuguese tourists were injured in a bus accident in Namibia. The death of the women, who were in their 70s and lived in Leça da Palmeira, was confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this Wednesday, April 24, according to “Correio da Manhã”.

The accident, which was serious, happened in the Kuiseb Valley, on the way to the largest sand dunes in Sossusvley. This occurred between 3 and 4 pm (local time, which means it was one hour less in Portugal) and the local press reported that the bus collided with a “minibus”, overturning and colliding with an open-top jeep.

The issue may have been a problem with the brakes of one of the buses, which is now being investigated. The tourist bus carried, among other nationalities, 22 Portuguese tourists. The consulates of Portugal and Namibia have already spoken to each other, the families of the tourists who lost their lives have already been contacted and the transfer process will take place normally.

The injured victims, which are 16 so far, according to “Público”, were taken to a private hospital in the region – and several have some body parts displacedof which shoulders are an example. The youngest victim of the accident is 42 years oldalthough a large proportion of the affected Portuguese are in their 70 years. Furthermore, the majority are female.

Four Portuguese people have already been discharged and there are still 10 cases with minor injuries. Furthermore, according to José Cesário, Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities, cited by the same publication, “there will be a third person who will have died, but does not have Portuguese nationality”. However, so far, nationality is unknown.
