Around 1,300 people are expected today at the sixth edition of Trail Trilhos Luso Bussaco, competing in the various categories on routes that cross the Bussaco mountain range, from Mealhada to Mortágua and Penacova.
As announced by Câmara da Mealhada, the race starts at the Luso Training Center towards the Bussaco National Forest, «namely to emblematic places such as Fonte Fria, then extending to the Serra, along «routes of extraordinary beauty».
«It’s not just the Bussaco National Forest, the entire mountain range has magnificent places and that is one of the attractions of this race. After the common start, the routes separate according to the distances throughout the mountain, covering 15 km on the longest route in the municipalities of Penacova and Mortágua, and six on the shortest route», explained Joaquim Martins, organizer of the race .
The Trail is divided into five events: 10 km of walking, 10 km of the Young Mini Trail, 18 km of the Trail Sprint, 30 km of the Trail and also, as a new feature, the Kids Trail, with three events for children up to at 11 years old.
The race is part of the national circuits in the Youth, Sprint and Trail categories and participants “come from the North to the Algarve” and repeat their presence year after year. «We managed to combine the sporting aspect with a magnificent setting and that is why this event is unique», says Joaquim Martins.
In turn, Ricardo Santos, councilor for Sports at Câmara da Mealhada, highlighted the importance of this event for the municipality. «I can only praise this organization, because we are talking about an event that brings together 1,300 people from all over the country, which has grown in size, and which enhances and showcases one of the greatest treasures of our region: the Bussaco National Forest », says the mayor, quoted in the statement.
