The Machico Liberal Initiative, in the person of António Nóbrega, sent a statement to the editorial staff highlighting the urgent need to carry out an intervention at the Machico Stadium, recalling the promise of the president of the Regional Government.
Furthermore, he congratulated the Associação Desportiva de Machico (ADM), for winning several championships (Football, Volleyball) and at various levels in 2023/24 and for its 55th anniversary.
“The Machico Stadium needs urgent intervention. With an obsolete athletics track in need of rehabilitation for many years, the precarious conditions of the infrastructure have worsened substantially in recent months.
The venue’s four lighting towers require immediate intervention, as they no longer allow sports to be practiced in that venue at night.
It is important to highlight that this space is used by the senior and training teams of the aforementioned Association to practice football, as well as Adrap training to practice athletics.
The president of the Regional Government promised, on more than one occasion, intervention in the area, however, to this day nothing has been done”, elaborates António Nóbrega.
“It is necessary and urgent to equip lighting with LED technology, which is more economical and environmentally friendly, thus allowing the creation of suitable conditions for hundreds of athletes from Machiquense to practice sports.
There is also an urgent need to restore the only athletics track in the eastern part of the island of Madeira, in a region with a lack of infrastructure for this sport”, he concludes.
