72-year-old man dies after crossing a closed bridge and falling seven meters in the south of SC

A 72-year-old driver, identified as Vital Coelho, died after trying to cross a closed bridge in Siderópolis, in the south of the state. The case happened on Tuesday night (22).

According to information from the Fire Department, the man did not know that the place was closed, and as he crossed it, he heard the structure break, tried to get out of the truck and ended up falling from a height of seven meters.

The victim was located in a steep embankment, within the river, which was approximately 60 centimeters deep. He had hypothermia and a suspected chest fracture.

Elderly man who fell from bridge was taken to hospital

He was removed from the site by rappelling, using a neck collar, thermal blanket and receiving oxygen. During the treatment, he had a cardiorespiratory arrest and was taken to the hospital by Samu (Mobile Emergency Care Service).

Moments after being admitted to the hospital, Vital succumbed to his injuries and died. The wake took place this Thursday (25) in São Bento do Sul, in the north of Santa Catarina.
