“I have the right to give a dignified funeral”: Mother found out about her son’s death only after he was buried

“I need to know what happened to my son. I need answers and I need to have Márcio’s body here. I have the right to give him a dignified funeral.” Cipriana Gomes, 58 years old, is a bitter mother. June 11 last year was the last time she spoke to her son, Márcio Rodrigues, 34, who two weeks later, on June 28, was found dead in a forest, in Luxembourg, where he lived.
The mother only found out about his death in November, after her son had been buried. She demands that the authorities in that country hand over the body to her.
“It was a huge shock to learn that they had buried him without informing his family. We don’t even know where he is”, says the dissatisfied mother. The family, who lives in Vila Verde, began the process for the transfer in November, but Luxembourg alleges public health reasons for denying the delivery of the body. Márcio had a 13-year-old son.
