Running or walking, around five thousand people did not miss the appeal of the municipality of Leiria and participated in the 9th edition of the Leiria Run.

The rain did not deter the participants, who dressed in red to celebrate freedom and visited, on Saturday night, the most emblematic places in Leiria, associated with the Carnation Revolution.

The PIDE headquarters in Leiria, the old printing presses or the places where personalities who fought against the dictatorship gathered were some of the places that the walkers visited during the race, without forgetting the now usual passages through Praça Francisco Rodrigues Lobo, the river Lis and the arrival at the Dr. Magalhães Pessoa Stadium.

The Leiria Run also passed through Leiria Castle and the PSP District Command.

There were around 1,500 registered in the race and, in turn, more than 3,500 in the walk, a number that allowed an “absolute record” of participants to be reached, said the councilor of the Leiria City Council responsible for Sports, Carlos Palheira.

The Leiria Run featured a 13-kilometer run, in addition to a nine-kilometer walk.

For next year, the event already has a date set: May 3rd.
