According to relatives, Maria had a poultry farm in the Massapê District and sold her chickens at the city fair. Young Wesley worked for her, helping with sales at the fair.

Marcelo da Silva said that his nephew Wesley intended to buy a ring and ask his girlfriend to get engaged.

“This week he was talking to me, he went to my house, so I could lend him the card so he could buy a ring to get engaged to his girlfriend, who was going to turn one year old on May 5th,” said the victim’s uncle.

The two were transporting slaughtered chickens on their motorcycle to the city fair when they were run over by the Argo driven by driver Lucas Gabriel Cosmo dos Santos, who fled the scene after the accident.

“She went to work and normally she always went by car, and today, she decided to go by motorbike”, said Edivaldo de Araújo, Maria’s nephew.
