Security guard arrested for involvement in the death of a patient who killed a security guard in HR

The Department of Homicide and Personal Protection (DHPP), reported that it arrested, late this Friday morning (26), a security guard from a private company involved in the confusion that occurred at Hospital da Restauração (HR), in Derby, in central area of ​​Recife.

This man was caught on video cameras firing a shot at a patient at the health unit, who was fleeing after committing a series of crimes in the hospital.

Although the police do not confirm it, unofficial information indicates that the patient was identified as José Roberto Lopes da Silva, aged 52.

Minutes earlier, this patient stole a gun and killed another guard after a shootout in HR.

Another person who was admitted to the unit was injured by bullet fragments.

The security professional was arrested for murder, after reporting to the DHPP, in the Cordeiro neighborhood, in the West Zone of Recife.

In an interview with TV Jornal, police chief Victor Leite spoke about the motivation for the guard’s arrest.

The worker, whose name was not disclosed, will be sent to a custody hearing, remaining at the disposal of the Court.

In a statement, the Civil Police said that “a man was arrested in the act and investigations continue until the case is fully elucidated.”

He also stated that he is investigating a completed double homicide and an attempted murder.

A police investigation was launched to determine all the facts.

The case is under the responsibility of the 2nd DPH/DHPP, coordinated by delegate Roberto Lobo.

In the interview, delegate Victor Leite said that, after shooting Nivaldo, the patient approached an ambulance driver and coerced him.

He stole the vehicle and fled along Avenida Agamenon Magalhães, in the Central area of ​​Recife.

According to the investigator, a group of security guards gave chase to intercept the ambulance stolen by the patient.

Near Praça do Derby, the vehicle was intercepted.

The patient then got out of the vehicle and was taken over by security guards.

In the images, it is possible to see, at that moment, the patient lying on the sidewalk of Avenida Agamenon Magalhães.

He was hit by shots fired by one of the guards who was chasing him.

“Everything indicates that there was a series of criminal actions on the part of the hospital patient. He stole a gun from a security guard, shot another guard (Nivaldo) carrying out this murder and then the patient shot another patient. This patient was grazed in the shoulder, where he gave a statement to us and confirmed the guards’ version,” said the investigator.

According to the police chief, the guard was arrested because “self-defense was not demonstrated when the lying patient was shot.”

“After killing the guard, he stole an ambulance, where we are trying to identify this ambulance. He stole and fled. During the chase, close to Derby Square, the vehicle was intercepted and the patient was neutralized. What was brought to us, at this moment, is the video that shows the execution of the patient and, there, we have testimonies that do not indicate the clear self-defense of the guard who fired the shot. He is being arrested in the act for this alleged execution against the patient. All security guards committed to the work gave a statement here at DHPP. And this self-defense was not well evidenced, it was very clear that there was a containment of this aggression against the patient, all of this will be further investigated during the investigation”, explained the delegate.

The investigator was asked whether, before being killed, the patient exchanged gunfire with the group of vigilantes.

The delegate states that so far there is no evidence of this fact.

“Until now, there are no statements that indicate that there was an exchange of shots. The statements indicate that the patient fired shots at the professionals and when he got out of the ambulance there is a statement that says he pointed the gun at the security guards, when he was hit by two shots and when he falls to the ground, apparently alive, there were these kicks by the guards and then this shooting at the patient who committed all these criminal acts”, added the delegate.

These workers are colleagues in uniform of Nivaldo Bezerra da Silva, aged 66, who was shot dead by the patient during an exchange of gunfire inside the health unit.

It all happened after the patient tried to steal a weapon from a security guard, whose name was not revealed.

This incident happened around 4:30 am this Friday, inside the HR, during the change of security guards’ shifts.

Nivaldo Silva, who was on the last shift of his career and about to retire, tried to take the gun back and was shot.

Then, security guards ran after the patient, who went to the area where the ambulances are located.

It was precisely at the moment he ran into the street that the images were taken.

What the SDS says

The Secretariat of Social Defense (SDS) said, in a note, that, legally, it only responds to the posture and conduct of its respective operatives: Military, Civil, Scientific Police, Fire Department and Civil Defense.

“The conduct of the security guards in question is only of interest to SDS from a criminal aspect and this is already under investigation by the Civil Police”, he added.
