The accident happened this Sunday, near Mourão. PJ took action
A man aged around 55 was found dead this Sunday after feeling unwell during a hot air balloon ride in the area of Mourão, in Alentejo. According to what CNN Portugal managed to find out, the balloon left Monsaraz and, when it was flying over the Mourão area, the man had a panic attack and asked to get off. The company that owned the balloon lowered the device and left the man on land. When the company’s ground support team went to the location, they found the man already dead, in the Alqueva dam.
According to Tiago Ramos, from Mourão Municipal Civil Protection, the alert for “an accident with a hot air balloon” was given to firefighters at 10:21. A rescue vessel, a vessel support vehicle and an ambulance were mobilized to the scene. The medical emergency team at the Évora hospital was also called, which ended up certifying the death.
The GNR took charge of the incident and called the Judiciary Police. In the early afternoon, investigations were still taking place at the site and the body still remained on the bank of the dam.
