5-year-old animal was shipped by mistake by the company; family says dog was healthy at the time of boarding
Dog owners held demonstrations this Sunday (April 28, 2024) in at least 20 airports across the country calling for justice for the golden dog Joca. The 5-year-old animal died after being mistakenly shipped by GOL Linhas Aéreas. It was transported by GOLLog, the airline’s cargo service, on April 22.
Joca was going to travel to Sinop (MS), but was taken to Fortaleza (CE) and then taken back to São Paulo, where he was pronounced dead. According to the family, the animal was healthy at the time of boarding, at Guarulhos International Airport.
In the Federal District, the event was promoted by the Clube Golden de Brasília. The demonstration began at 9 am at Brasília International Airport. The organizers told the Power360 that more than 50 people and 25 dogs of different breeds, especially goldens, sat in front of the GOL ticket window this morning.

Veterinarian Marina Zimmermann was at the scene. She told the digital newspaper that the objective of the demonstration was to ask for better rules for transporting animals, especially large ones.
“A dog that has been trapped in a cage for more than 8 hours experiencing absurd stress, without having access to water, food or any type of affection that could calm him down, without a doubt had more than possible reasons for death from him”said the veterinarian.
For Marina, it was negligent on the part of the airline not to take the animal to the veterinarian to assess its health and ensure that Joca could be taken on a new flight.
“It wasn’t a suitcase, it was a living being, a sentient living being, that felt pain, cold, hunger, fear. It really is a neglect of the meaning of a life.”declared the veterinarian.
