And much more: in the end, it grossed over 266 million, and 476 million worldwide – which not only made it the most successful feature film of the mid-1970s, but also launched Spielberg’s directing career at a completely new point.

In this way, the tension is gradually reversed, gradually revealing more and more of the great threat, which remains in the dark for a long time – and thus radiates an even greater danger. And when the monster first appears in all its glory, the moment is even more effective.
