The president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, lamented the murder of three Chilean police officers in an ambush last Saturday 27th, in Arauco, Biobío region. Three days of mourning were declared in the country. The victims were identified as 1st Sergeant Carlos Cisterna Navarro, 1st Corporal Sergio Arévalo Lobos and 1st Corporal Misael Vidal Cid, all from the Public Order Control Police Station.
“I guarantee there will be no impunity,” declared Boric on his official Twitter/X profile. “We will discover the whereabouts of the perpetrators of this terrible crime.”

Boric also said he held an emergency meeting about the death of police officers with ministers Carolina Tohá (Interior and Public Security) and Maya Fernández (Defense), in addition to secretaries Manuel Monsalve (Interior) and Ricardo Montero (Defense), and Biobío’s delegate, Daniela Dresdner.
“We are coordinating immediate actions to respond to this cowardly attack. Know, Carabineros of Chile, that you are not alone”, added the president, who traveled to the region where the crime occurred and participated in the burial of the police officers.
Ambush murder
Carlos Cisterna Navarro, Misael Vidal Cid and Sergio Arévalo Lobos were shot dead in the early hours of Saturday 27th in an ambush in the indigenous community of Cañete, Biobío region. After the murder, the police officers had their bodies burned inside the police car.
According to the Chilean Carabineros, the victims were carrying out preventive patrol in the region “when they were cowardly murdered” by a group of armed men. The police officers were captured in the ambush by the criminals. The crime was committed on the institution’s anniversary.
“The police are currently investigating how the events occurred,” said Arauco provincial police chief Humberto Toro. “We are distressed, very sad and very angry.”
On Twitter/X, the Carabineros also lamented the triple homicide. “To his family, our institutional family, friends and co-workers, our deepest condolences,” he declared.
“On this significant date, we once again mourn with sadness for those who give their lives for others. For order, security and the country”, added the institution.
The victims were buried this Sunday, the 28th, in an official ceremony. “We pay the most sincere and emotional tribute. Today an entire country mourns. We appreciate all the expressions of affection we have received in each barracks in Chile”, declared the Carabineros.
