The constitution of the Coimbra Intermodal Transport System Management Entity (A-GIT) will be debated today at the Coimbra Chamber meeting. A-GIT, according to a press release from the Municipality, will be responsible for managing the integrated transport ticketing system in the region, allowing a user to use the same pass to travel across the various transport operators in the Region. The establishment of the entity will take place in several phases and involves an investment by the Municipality until 2027, amounting to more than 325 thousand euros in 2024.
Based on the preliminary studies developed and the conclusions of the working group, it is understood, as explained in the municipal information, that the figure of a business nature is the “most appropriate”, as it allows the creation of “an autonomous structure capable of developing the powers of transport authority and, consequently, manager of the intermodal system”.
Thus, this institutional model will enable a true intermodal system in the Coimbra region, «benefiting users of public passenger transport services through interoperable ticketing typologies and common tariffs, allowing users not to be penalized for transfers».
Thus, with the future integrated transport ticket, promoted by A-GIT, it will be possible for anyone to travel on the Mondego Mobility System (SMM), on SMTUC, on transport services concessioned by CIM-RC or on Comboios de Portugal (in certain services).
In view of the initial investment needs established for A-GIT’s share capital, in the amount of 1,165,594 million euros, CIM-RC will hold 50.1% of the share capital and the Municipality of Coimbra will hold 49.9%. .
