“Situation at the front has worsened”: Zelensky calls for urgent shipment of weapons

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, again this Sunday called for the urgent shipment of weapons, on the same day that the Ukrainian army admitted that the situation on the battlefront “has worsened” and that troops from Ukraine retreated on the eastern front.

“The situation at the front [de batalha] has gotten worse,” wrote Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi in Telegram.

The military clarified that the “most complicated” areas are west of the occupied city of Maryinka and northwest of Avdiivka, the location captured by Russian forces in February.

Faced with the difficulties, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenky renewed his appeals to international allies, asking for the urgent shipment of weapons that could help Kiev maintain its position.

In statements cited by Reuters, Zelensky told the leader of the North American Democrats, Hakeem Jeffries, that “Patriot systems are necessary and as quickly as possible.”

Syrskyi said that Ukrainian troops took up new positions west of the towns of Berdychi and Semenivka, in the north of Avdiivka, and Novomykhailivka, near the city of Maryinka.

“In general, the enemy achieved certain tactical successes in these areas, but was unable to gain operational advantages,” he said.
