The week starts with good news for Portuguese drivers. Fuel prices will fall this Monday, 2 cents per liter for gasoline and 0.5 cents per liter for diesel.

Prices at gas stations next to hypermarkets follow the same line: «the trend will be for a decrease of 0.0215 euros in gasoline and a reduction of 0.0058 euros in diesel», said a source in the sector.

Since the beginning of the year, the price of diesel has increased by 4 cents per liter while gasoline has become 18 cents more expensive.

MOST EXPENSIVE SINCE JANUARY

This means that filling a 60 liter tank of diesel costs 2.5 euros more than it did 15 weeks ago. To top up a gas tank, it takes 11 euros more than in the first week of January.

Data from the General Directorate of Energy and Geology (DGEG) show that the average price of a liter of gasoline in Portugal currently costs 1,822 euros while diesel is worth 1,606 euros.

Quotes may, however, vary across gas stations, as the price set on the network also takes into account the level of competition, supply and demand in each market and the level of fixed costs at each station.
