Campos – The dream of athlete Nicole Thuin, 14, of representing Brazilian swimming at the Olympics or the World Cup matures. She is from Campos dos Goytacazes (RJ) and has collected several titles, the most recent being the Federations Cup, in which she won four gold medals, in the 50 meter (m) freestyle, 100 freestyle and in the 4x100m freestyle and 4x200m freestyle relays.

In the same competition – held on the 24th to 26th, at the Clube de Regatas do Vasco da Gama –, the swimmer also stood out with a silver medal in the 50m butterfly, competing with the best swimming athletes in the infant to senior categories. Also from Campos, Lucas Manhães, 14 years old, won two silver medals, in the 50m butterfly and 50 backstroke.

Nicole and Lucas swim at the advanced center of the Clube de Regatas do Flamengo in Campos dos, under the command of coach Jacy Sales, and are part of the State Swimming Team. The athlete has been competing for several years and aims to follow the path of her father, former Brazilian swimming team athlete Raphael Thuin, who won four World Cups.

Nicole’s mother, Roberta Cipriani, closely follows her daughter’s commitment, who considers her disciplined in training: “In addition to training three/four hours from Monday to Saturday, she gives up several things that a teenager likes, like eating sweets or go to parties to train.”

In Nicole’s opinion, the Confederations Cup was a competition with a lot of improvement and learning: “I’m very happy to be able to improve my placements and times. I had great results, with four gold medals and one silver, in addition to getting the technical index trophy, in the 100m freestyle event, with a time of 1.01.26 seconds”.

The athlete emphasizes that her dream in swimming is to evolve more and more and one day be able to represent the Brazilian team at the Olympics. This Monday (29th) the athletes from Campos, who represent Flamengo’s advanced team, return to the pool to train in search of the next competition.
