Relatives and neighbors of the victims, killed in a bus accident in Minas Gerais, mourned the loss of their relatives and friends. The case happened last Saturday (27), in Medina, in the Jequitinhonha Valley, in Minas Gerais. According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the vehicle with 54 people overturned on BR-116, in a place known as the “death curve”.

The tourist bus left Caruaru in Pernambuco, heading to the capital of São Paulo. The point of the accident was at kilometer 90 of the highway, 18 km from Medina and 22 km from Itaobim, both in the Jequitinhonha Valley.

Two victims are from Pernambuco, one from Rio de Janeiro and the other from Alagoas. The four dead were passengers. The accident also left 32 people injured, according to the Federal Highway Police (PRF). The injured were taken to two hospitals in the region, Santa Rita in Medina and Vale do Jequitinhonha in Itaobim. Two were in a more serious condition and should be transferred this Sunday (28), to a hospital in Teófilo Otoni. The bodies of the victims were released for burial, according to the IML.

The sister of Mauro Sérgio da Silva, 42 years old, one of the victims of the accident, reported that she had to recognize her brother’s body via video call, carried out by the IML. “They called me on Sunday morning, asked for my brother’s details, and asked me to recognize the body via video call,” said Marlene Maria da Silva.

Two neighbors of Severina Gomes de Oliveira, 70, also mourned their colleague’s death. The bodies of the victims have not yet reached the municipalities. The times for wakes and burials have not yet been defined.

The other victims are Maria Amanda Menezes da Silva, aged 29, born in Águas Belas, and Giselda Marques dos Santos, aged 52, born in Murici in Alagoas.

The Civil Police opened an investigation to investigate the causes of the accident. g1 requested a position from the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) and is awaiting feedback. The company responsible for the bus was also contacted and did not respond.
