The Epidemiological Surveillance (VE) of Piracicaba (SP) confirmed the sixth death from dengue in the city in 2024 on the afternoon of this Monday (29). A The patient is a woman, aged between 30 and 39, resident of the Central region.

The death occurred in the week between April 7th and 13th this year. O case is autochthonous, of local origin without classification for dengue serotype. The result came after a confirmatory exam carried out by the Adolfo Lutz Institute, in São Paulo.

Piracicaba has 10,414 positive cases of dengue, according to the most recent survey released by the Department of Health this Monday (2). Three Suspicious deaths are still under investigation.

The fifth death was a woman, resident of the Central region, aged between 80 and 89 years old, with comorbidities.

According to the city hall, the fifth death from dengue in Piracicaba occurred in the week between March 17th and 23rd. O case is autochthonous, when they have local origin, in the city, without classification for dengue serotype.

A fourth death from dengue in Piracicaba was registered in the last April 5th. The patient is a man, with comorbidities, aged between 70 and 79 years old, residing in the southern region of Piracicaba. The case classified as dengue serotype 1.

On April 4th, the third death from dengue was confirmed in the city. A victim is a man aged between 80 and 89 years old, resident of the Central region of the municipality. The patient, according to the Department of Health, had comorbidities.

The last two confirmed deaths also occurred as a result of infections autochthonous by dengue, without classification for disease serotype. The deaths occurred in the week between March 10th and 16th.

Capivari and Piracicaba confirm two more deaths from dengue and the region has 11 deaths

The Department of Health emphasizes that it continues to monitor dengue cases in the municipality and continues with intense work to combat the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which transmits dengue, zika virus and chikungunya.

“With support from the Municipal Program to Combat Aedes (PMCA), linked to the Zoonosis Control Center (CCZ), health and zoonosis agents expanded their activities with guidance and educational actions house to house from Monday to Friday.”

The trawlers and joint efforts continue every Saturday and the nebulization teams continue to operate in regions with the highest number of cases, in addition to actions to remove unusable items from hoarders’ homes, forced entry into suspected breeding sites, among other actions.

When to seek care? In the metropolis, the guidance from the Department of Health is that any resident who presents a high fever (39ºC to 40ºC) of sudden onset and has at least two of the other symptoms, should immediately seek a health service.

See some of the Health guidelines to avoid dengue:

  • Use repellent, especially in closed places;
  • Eliminate sources of standing water;
  • Keep flower pots and plant dishes filled with sand to the brim;
  • Store bottles with the mouth facing down;
  • Always clean the pipe gutters;
  • Do not throw garbage on vacant lots;
  • Always place trash in closed bags;
  • Keep buckets and water tanks properly covered and pools with chlorine;
  • Do not let water accumulate in tires;
  • Pierce aluminum cans before they are discarded to prevent water from accumulating;
  • Wash bird and animal drinking fountains at least once a week;
  • If you suspect the disease, immediately contact the health unit closest to your residence and never use medication yourself.
