The inauguration of the Leiria Fair takes place today, at 6:30 pm, in a ceremony that will bring together the city council executive and representatives of various entities and institutions at the main entrance of the venue for a visit to the space.
Highlight on this day is the performance of the Philharmonic Association of the Municipality of Leiria, in addition to the fireworks prepared to welcome the stallholders and the thousands of people expected over almost a month.
The party takes place at the usual ‘stage’: the car park at the Dr. Magalhães Pessoa Municipal Stadium, where it will be ‘parked’ until May 26th.
The musical lineup for this year’s Leiria Fair promises free concerts for all tastes. From folklore to pop, through Portuguese popular music, to hip-hop/rap, there will be 20 days of concerts, with free entry, including Toy, who will open the Leiria Fair tomorrow. Next are Van Zee (May 3), Diogo Piçarra (4), Hybrid Theory (10), Slow J (11), Némanus (17), Excesso (18), João Miguel (21), Katedral (22), GNTK (24) and Carolina Deslandes (25), with there also being room for the municipality’s philharmonic bands to perform on May 26, the closing day of the event.
This year, the Leiria Fair brings with it a series of new features that reinforce its commitment to sustainability.
The area in front of the stage where the concerts will take place will be larger this year and with fewer constraints and physical blocks”.
Another new feature is that, this year, the event will feature wooden gantries and fences, allowing for the elimination of 400 meters of canvas and plastic. In the same logic of sustainability, the organization will also carry out the selective collection of waste in Praça da Gastronomia.
And if last year around 650 thousand visitors visited the Leiria Fair, the municipality’s expectations this year are even higher, hoping to exceed these numbers.
The Leiria Fair takes place in the car park of the municipal stadium and the municipality guarantees free transport to the site from peripheral parks in the city.
