The search to find the young tourist from Minas Gerais who fell and disappeared at sea continues in Arraial do Cabo, in the Lakes Region of Rio, on the morning of this Tuesday, 30th.

Teams from the Fire Department, Navy, Maritime Guard and residents have been working on the rescue since last Saturday, the 27th.

According to bathers, a group was fishing when the victim, aged 22, bent down to pick up an object that had fallen on the rocks in Pontal do Atalaia. At this moment, a wave hit him and he was swept into the sea. Since then, the young man has not been seen between Ilha do Francês and Praia Grande.

Specialized teams were promptly activated and are involved in the operations. The Environmental and Maritime Operational Group (Gopam) and a diver from SOS Resgate are also working on the search.

To the Multiplix Portalthe Fire Department highlighted that the operation involves around 30 military personnel, including lifeguards and divers, with support from the corporation’s vessels, aircraft and drones:

The work continues uninterruptedly, day and night, with no end in sight. Land, surface sea and underwater searches are being carried out. The corporation is in contact with the family, providing all necessary support through social workers.

The city of Arraial explained to our report that “adverse weather conditions” hampered search efforts on Saturday, 27th. Despite the challenges faced, the teams resumed work on Sunday, 28th:

Despite the heavy fog in recent days, search operations are still ongoing, with all efforts dedicated to locating the missing tourist. Even a fire helicopter is assisting in the search, which was restarted this Tuesday [30].

The city added that it contacted the young man’s family and made itself available. The family members, however, informed that they would not need the help of social assistance and that they would just like to find the young man.

Our team also contacted the Brazilian Navy and the Port Authority this Tuesday morning, the 30th, to obtain more information about the searches, but is still awaiting the return of the authorities.
