PPM Madeira today stated that even after the abolition of slavery, which dates back to February 27, 1869, “we continue to live in slavery” that “evolves and found other forms of slavery to continue exploiting workers”.

Paulo Brito, coordinator of the party, understands that although we do not see ‘large slave sales markets’, we currently have what he called “slaves of modern times”, namely “companies that know how to get around labor laws in various ways, to enslave workers with employment contracts”.

In this regard, he gave as an example the case of green receipts “which only serve to increasingly fatten the bank accounts of those contracting these services, as they are exempt from paying holidays, holiday allowances, Christmas allowances, and other contributions to finances. , Social Security, employment liability insurance”.

“And the most serious thing is that these employers are imposing salaries on workers who are subject to this type of precarious wages with the connivance of successive Governments and parties with parliamentary seats”, he pointed out.

Furthermore, Paulo Brito states that another type of precarious slave labor – “and even used by some parties that claim to be staunch defenders of workers’ rights, but which, at their parties at Quinta da Atalaia, require volunteers to comply with a stipulated schedule ”-, it’s volunteer work.

“There is an endless amount of slavery work in the 21st century that if the PPM were to give all the examples, we would write a statement as big as the Holy Bible, with the old and new testaments”, he stated, adding that the party “knows that successive Governments and many trade union entities are hostage to the great economic powers and this is visible to anyone who wants to see, as it is enough to know that many Deputies and Ministers, when their mandates in the Assembly of the Republic end, immediately have a guaranteed ‘cup’ in any multinational, even with a bigger salary and more perks than they receive in the Assembly of the Republic”.

In this way, the coordinator asks you to stop being “hypocrites” and “selling your snake oil to Portuguese workers”.

“What you miss is getting to the end of a day of hard work under a scorching sun and looking at your hands and seeing them calloused after a day of work and reaching the end of the month is earning the national minimum wage. . Only then will you, in the Assembly, give value to those who really lift the country’s economy. A happy worker’s day to those who really contribute every day with the effort of their sweat to bring bread to their families”, he concluded .
