A man was arrested in Ipatinga, Minas Gerais, for having beaten his own brother to death after an argument, burning and throwing the body on the BR-259 in Colatina, Northwest of Espírito Santo, in early April.
Maikon Gonçalves da Silva, aged 27, was arrested on suspicion of killing Manoel da Silva Júnior, aged 28, on Tuesday afternoon (30), in the center of Ipatinga. Manoel had been missing since March 31st.
“We managed to discover that they had an argument on the day of the crime, the suspect was using alcohol and drugs, the victim wanted to sleep and reprimanded his brother. The brother didn’t like it and ended up killing the victim with sticks”, explained the police chief. from the Colatina police station, Leonardo Ávila.
Soon after, Maikon brought the body to the highway in the rural area of Colatina, in Catuá on April 6 and set it on fire to try to make it difficult to identify the victim.
The two brothers are from Minas Gerais and worked at a street paving company.
“This body was sent to forensics in Vitória and through forensic examinations, we were able to confirm that it was indeed Manoel’s corpse who had been missing for a few days”, said the delegate.
Police arrest suspect of killing his own brother
Maikon has several police records and was in prison until the beginning of January this year for robbery in Minas Gerais. The suspect was located and arrested in Ipatinga with the support of Minas Gerais security forces.
“We already had a very strong indication, but a few days later it was possible to prove the identity of this corpse and through this expertise, it was possible to say with certainty that it was Manoel’s corpse”, stated the delegate.
