Anita made history by releasing his new album, Funk Generation, and has proven that he will continue to break barriers in his career. Now that she has finally taken funk to international lands, the singer took the opportunity to make a ‘general assessment’ of the impact of her work.

I never thought I wouldn’t get what I wanted. Everyone around me has maybe been more realistic, but I just have these visions of what my life will be like. I don’t tell anyone, because I know how external pressure can easily influence the results,” he said in an interview with People Maganize.

Completely in love with the result of the album, the artist says she doesn’t care about the results of the project.

“For a long time, numbers have decided whether I won or failed, and that will lead you to do something unoriginal. I want to be very clear: this doesn’t mean I don’t love my old music. With ‘Versions of Me’, I was trying a little bit of everything to try to solidify myself in the mainstream, but I don’t care what the hell happens with this next album. I love the adrenaline of not knowing if people will like it,” he said.

Heavy

She also addressed the controversy behind the ‘forbidden’ lyrics of her new funks, and said that this is the culture of the musical style.

“Brazilian funk is very, very sexual and very explicit, but these lyrics don’t reflect what I’m personally experiencing right now,” he explained.

“It’s more of an exploration of my love for beats, partying and how it all makes me feel. Many of the producers of this album are people who came from the ghetto, from the favelas. They live and breathe Brazilian funk – the kind of funk that has crazy lyrics, that nasty shit,” she detailed.

Illness

During the process of creating the album, Anitta went through a health scare and began to see death with different eyes. Still without a precise diagnosis, the singer underwent tests for cancer and autoimmune diseases.

“Now I really appreciate death,” he reflected.

I thought I was going to die. And if I died, I wanted to make sure I left behind work that truly represented me and the sounds I love. I had already achieved the successes; I’ve already done it by the numbers. Death and the fact that we don’t know what tomorrow holds makes me feel more alive. Now I want to try something that makes me feel like an artist again.”

End of Anitta?

We know that Anitta is actually just a character behind Larissa de Macedo Machado, the Brazilian woman from Honório Gurgel that we know.

About abandoning her alter ego, she says: “I can see myself leaving the name ‘Anitta’ behind. But, I will never just be Larissa. I am very protective of her. It helps people understand that there is an artist and that there is a human who just wants to go home and hide.”

She finished by talking about how she sees her role as a woman who deals with so many controversial issues: “I use my sexuality as a message of freedom. It’s not like I’m telling everyone to show their pussy. But we have the right to express ourselves without feeling ashamed.”
